July's Freebies and coupons

My husband was made redundant in June 2015 so money was a little tight, we were lucky we were prepared but things were and are still a little tight as he started his new job at the start of august 2015.

I was looking for ways we could save a bit of money on our shopping bill as in august alone it was my birthday, my daughters 6th birthday, husbands nieces birthday, we had alton towers booked and paid for and chessington booked and paid for way before hubby was made redundant (just needed petrol and food) and also school uniform for when my daughter goes back to school in September.

A post on facebook caught my eye where some people had managed to get complimentary coupons for giving honest feedback on a product or to the company itself whether it was a compliment or complaint.

It got me thinking about how I could use this without taking advantage, I thought about just doing a few companies to see what I could get to help with my bills.

I had a bad experience at Frankie and Benny's on fathers day so I put a complaint in (I won't go into the ins and outs) however they very nicely sent me a £20 voucher to use when we next visit.

I was accepted on my first supersavvyme campaign where me and my husband got to try something each I had the Braun Silk-epil 5 and hubby had the Braun Series 3 shaver.

I was accepted onto the bzzagent campaigne, where you get to try all 3 flavours of the new Jacob's cracker crisps with some coupons to pass out.

I received a few coupons allowing me to get a free product from yazoo.

I received 3 random flavour boxes of popz microwave popcorn.

A voucher to get a free pack of petit filous yogurts.

Vouchers from Tesco orchard to try the Tesco finest cheese.

Not in the picture a £5 Gu coupon and a set of goggles from zoggs (daughters broke in the first week).

We also got 2 £5 vouchers from build a bear for spending so much and having the loyalty scheme and because it was my daughters birthday we also had 2 £3 vouchers. So my daughter got £16 worth of build a bear clothes for free. You have to spend a certain amount to get the £5 voucher but my daughter had some money saved up and knew what she wanted to get.

I did find it a bit cheeky and embarrassing emailing companies asking for a freebie or a coupon but I was surprised with the generosity given, we were genuinely grateful as every little really helps at the moment.

If you havn't already take a look at bzzagent and supersavvy me for products to try and sometimes coupons and Tesco orchard for vouchers to try at Tesco, you do have some surveys etc to fill out but they are really easy and if you get something to try for it, it is definitely worth it, I have had some great stuff to trial thanks to the named companies above.

Also take a look at your loyalty cards/schemes to see if your entitled to anything or if you can build something up.

Thank you for reading, I hope this inspires you to try and save money for your family and helps you out a little bit, good luck and much love tasha xx

How to advertise your business

I always get asked about how to advertise a business, whether it is nails, hair, beauty, a company just starting up or if you are representative of a company. The person asking is normally struggling with sales or getting clients and wants a challenge to boost what they are earning but are stumped on how to do it.

You just need to put your thinking head on...when you are out and about take a look around at anyone advertising:

  • What do you see?
  • Where do you see the advertisements? On a car, a sign, a leaflet, a shop?
  • What can you hear?
  • Is it someone you have overhead talking about a brand or recommendation?
If you are a nail technician make sure your nails are done to a good standard as this will be a talking point when you are out and about and could bring in potential clients, the potential client can then see your work up close and make a decision if that is what they want, normally a bit of nail art gets someone talking and brings interest but wait....how do you make sure they remember your business name?

Do you have a business name? if not you will need one, something distinctive so they remember your company name,

Make yourself an email address and website, It doesn't have to be one that charges there are free ones available, so when a potential client is searching on google for something that matches the criteria yours will be there, this way they can interact with you. This could be booking an appointment, asking a general question or even ordering something.

Have a facebook page as nearly everything nowadays are on facebook, it will have your website address (if you have one not always necessary) phone number, treatment and price list, location, what you sell etc, they will be able to contact you, see your details and leave you a review, you can also put up pictures of your work to show what standard you are working at.

Business cards, you can get them done at vistaprint at an affordable cost, it doesn't have to be fancy but keep it current to what you are working in, make sure your business name, what you do, phone number and location are on there. Always keep a set on you, so when a potential client asks about your services you can hand them a business card so they don't forget they have spoken to you or what your company is and go to a competitor.

You could make a leaflet up, again current details such as business name, phone number, location, treatment and price list etc everything you need to advertise your business. You could keep them in your salon, home based salon, mobile or just to hand out, you could make a bit more and advertise in other places.

Where else could I advertise my business?:
  • Your local Gym
  • At a salon (not providing the same treatments)
  • Photographer (maybe work in a deal you advertise them and vice versa for a potential discount)
  • Your local supermarket,  you may need to pay a small price
  • Your local corner shop again you may need to pay a small price
  • A Local business advertising leaflet - check if costs are involved
  • Yellow pages - check if costs are involved
  • Your own website
  • Your own Facebook page/group
  • Local selling sites on facebook
  • Twitter
  • Gumtree
  • Netmums
  • Through letter boxes - check rules on fly tipping
  • On peoples car windows - check rules on fly tipping
  • Giving your friend a freebie in return of advertising you to their friends and family for potential clients
  • Hand a business card out to anyone who has any interest in your business
  • keeping contact (do not stalk! or pester)
  • Business e-newsletters
  • Ask friends and family to hand out flyers, business cards etc in return of a discount or freebie
  • Run a promotion - for people in beauty when having a set of nails, get gel polish on toes for free, this way you are showing them a new treatment and gives the potential for them to book in for that treatment in the future
  • Loyalty cards - example after 5 treatments 1 free same treatment or other
  • Discount for trying a new design/style
  • Run a competition for a new set
  • Create a package - prom season is a good one, christmas, wedding etc

When giving clients your phone number you could be in for contact at any hours of the day as some clients feel you should answer 24 hours a day 7 days a week, I have seen lots of techs getting upset at getting a message at say 3am but remember this could be a convenient time for the client to message as they may not have any other time to book but you do NOT have to reply at that time and obviously reply at a convenient time within your working hours.

You may want to look into getting a business mobile, it is your decision if it is pay and go or contract and you will have to work out what is cost effective just so you can turn it off at the end of your working day so that you do not get disturbed when you are in bed, out and about, a birthday, somewhere inappropriate eg out drinking lol. This way it doesn't effect your personal time by yourself, with your family, friends etc.

Always take pictures of your work and show it off on your page, website etc but please make sure you watermark them! I see it all the time where others are stealing other peoples work and taking the credit for your hand work so please please please watermark your pictures, put your business name on or your own name just so that when someone sees that picture they can see and know it is yours.

There are companies out there who can make you a company logo, leaflets etc it isn't something you have to have and something you want to look into before going a head with costs involved, this would be something relevant to your company and would be unique.

I hope this helps everyone who is struggling to advertise and needed a bit of help, I wish you every success in your business,Thank you for reading, much love tasha xxx

Birthday Sweet Cones

Birthday Sweet Cones

It was coming up to my daughters 6th birthday and we wanted to do something different, we have always done goodies bags and they have always been hit and miss if the child likes them or not, especially if the child is older than the others. So we got thinking about what we could do that also would not break the bank balance. We thought what child doesn't like sweets, yes the parents may get annoyed if their child gets hyper after eating them but once we hand the "goodie bag" or "sweet cone" over it is down to the parent if they let them have it, so we decided we would make a sweet cone based on our daughters favorites and what we thought the others would like too.

I started looking online at what I could get and straight away I found a large pack of 25 sweet cones for 99p free postage, bargain as they came with something to tie it up with too, they took approx a week to be delivered.

The next task was the sweets, we went around number shops and got them in 3 trips as we could not get everything we wanted on the first trip.

The sweets we used in order in the sweet cone were:
  • Bubblegum (Blue) millions
  • Smarties
  • Haribo Starmix
  • Rainbow drops
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Large marshmallows
  • Frozen wrapped individual chocolate (hidden between the marshmallows)
It took us about 10 minutes to make them all up but we didn't have anywhere to put them, so I searched and I found a gift basket, we put them in the gift basket but thought there was something missing, I had a bit of curling ribbon so I added a bow around the top just to give it that little something extra.

They still looked a bit plain so I ordered some stickers with minions on which at the moment is my daughters favourite and added Thank you for coming to my party love Ebony xx. The stickers which my daughter put on really gave it that final touch and they were a big hit, every child who received one loved them. The parents were impressed too, they thought we bought them but we actually made them.

These were really easy to make and gave the party that bit of an extra touch, I will say be careful with them we did have one accident where one child hit something else with their sweet cone and millions went everywhere haha (we did offer to clean it up) otherwise a big success!

You don't have to make these for a birthday, this could be made with your child/children just to have some fun by spending time making something with them, Easter, Valentine's day, Christmas, you could add one to your child/children's Christmas eve box if they have one or just a nice treat.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a big success with making your own sweet cones, much love tasha xx

Braun Silk-epil 5 and Braun Series 3

I joined supersavvyme a few years ago but never got accepted for a campaign, well my luck changed and i finally got accepted for a campaign that both myself and my husband could try together, I received the Braun Silk-epil 5 (epilator) and my husband received the Braun Series 3 (shaver). Once accepted they did not take long to arrive, they came on the day they said they would which was exciting, they came in a massive box. When we opened the box the above picture is what we found inside, it came with both products as well as a project handbook that tells you about the products and what we have to do to complete this campaign.

We had to leave a review on the supersavvyme tried and tested page where other people can see reviews for the products and make their own decision based upon the reviews, I myself check reviews on products before I trial it, just because I see a bad review if the price isn't too bad I may still trial it as I may find another result that others haven't, as what works for one may not work for another.

These are the reviews we left for the products above.

Braun Silk-epil 5 - My product review

i have never used an epilator before and i got this for free from supersavvyme to trial, i have always used a normal razor, it came really nicely packaged, the epilator looked nice, it wasn't too heavy which is important as i struggle with some because i have upper arm problems, i was a bit nervous using it but i needn't of been, it was so easy to use, it didn't hurt and it left my legs silky smooth, i would definitely recommend others to try who havn't done so before. It is slightly noisy but if you do it with music in the background you don't nervous, i wasn't overly too impressed with having to find a plug to fit as it came with not a uk fitting but luckily i had one lying about so it didn't matter too much. all the information i needed for use was all in the box

Braun Series 3 - Husbands product review

hubby got this free to trial from supersavvyme on a dual trial, it came in a nice packaging, it isn't too heavy, it looks good. it is very easy to use, leaves a nice smooth finish, my husband loved all the extras it came with and having it altogether, it didn't pull the hair or irritate the skin, it is easy to clean, hubby was impressed and so was i.

So we tested the products and thought they were great, I would recommend them as it was both our first times trying something like these and they have worked for us, will I continue to use them....? yes I will but I will always try something new as with most women and mothers you want something that is easy and quick but also want something that's new.

These are my own and my husband's personal opinions, we have not been paid to write this review, this personal review was not asked, yes we got free products to trial but I will not be penalized if I left a negative review, I however have left a positive review as this is my own findings and correct at time of posting. I know how frustrating it is to find a positive review on a product that is not great and felt mislead.

Thank you for reading everyone much love Tasha xxx
